- I wonder why Siddaramaiah got restless after Al Qaeda’s name cropped up: Bommai
Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said he was not surprised by al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri’s praise of Muskaan, a student defending her right to wear a hijab inside the classroom. Chief Minister Bommai also slammed Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah for his statement that Zawahiri’s video has been tampered with and is an “act” of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Muskan raised the slogan ‘Allah Hu Akbar’
In February, when the hijab controversy was at its height, a group of students wearing saffron straps raised slogans in Mandya for B.Com second year student Muskan Khan entering college wearing a hijab. As the students chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’, Muskaan responded by chanting ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’. After this the college administration intervened and brought the situation under control.
‘Al-Qaeda has expressed its views’
After returning from New Delhi, Bommai said, ‘There is nothing to be surprised about. Some issues are raised unnecessarily by going against the law and making an issue. Some forces are continuously creating chaos and confusion among the masses. As part of this, al-Qaeda has clearly expressed its views. Bommai said he has issued instructions to senior police officers to ascertain the authenticity of Zawahiri’s video.
‘Why did Siddaramaiah get restless?’
Bommai rejected Siddaramaiah’s allegation that the RSS was behind the alleged video and said there was no logic and grounds behind it. “I wonder why Siddaramaiah became restless after the name of al-Qaeda (in the hijab controversy) surfaced,” he questioned. That is the basic question. If al-Qaeda’s name comes up, what is the problem with them?’
‘Zawahiri’s video has been fabricated by RSS’
A senior Congress leader today said that the purported video of Zawahiri was fabricated by the RSS. He said, ‘Where are the terrorists, who are the terrorists? It is RSS, which sends them (videos). It’s all fake. Only these people (RSS functionaries) have coined it. When the Chief Minister is armed with intelligence, what is there for him to find out? These intelligence officers brief him every morning and evening.
Muskan’s father also gave a statement
Muskan Khan’s family has denied any links with al-Qaeda and said they do not know who Zawahiri is. The girl’s father Mohammad Hussain Khan, a Mandya resident, tried to distance the family from the controversy, saying they did not want any praise from the leader of a terrorist organisation.
