A gunman opened fire at a Walmart supermarket in Chesapeake, Virginia, leaving “multiple casualties” and injuries at the scene, police said. Let’s take a closer look at this Walmart shooting.

A shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia on Tuesday night reported “multiple casualties.” Authorities said the suspect also died. Chesapeake Police spokesman Leo Kosinski told reporters outside the scene that officers were called to the Walmart Supercenter at 10:12 p.m. local time due to a serious threat situation. Over the next 30 to 45 minutes, Kosinski said, “we were able to find several casualties and several injured people.” The exact number of deaths and injuries has not been confirmed. Five people are being treated at a hospital in the region for unidentified injuries after the injured were rushed there.

“While details of the suspect’s death were not immediately released, Kosinski said the shooter is believed to have acted alone. Although at least one body was found outside, Kosinski said the shooting is believed to have occurred inside the store. More than 40 emergency vehicles rushed to the Walmart store on Battlefield Boulevard after a 911 call was made at 10:12 p.m. local time on Tuesday. When police responded to the scene, they realized it was an active shooter situation and changed their tactics accordingly, Mr. Kosinski said.
The coastal Hampton Roads region of southern Virginia, which includes the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, straddles the Chesapeake. It’s unclear how many deaths there are, but the Chesapeake Police Department said there were “multiple” casualties in the Walmart shooting.

Virginia state senator Lewis Lucas said in a tweet late Tuesday that he was “absolutely heartbroken” by the latest mass shooting in the United States at a Walmart in Chesapeake.

He added: “I will not rest until we find solutions to end this epidemic of gun violence that has claimed so many lives in our country.” Senator Mark Warner said he was “sickened” by reports of mass shootings and said he would be “monitoring developments closely”. “Heartbroken by news of yet another mass shooting, this time at a Walmart in Chesapeake”
